Lichsteiner: Conte and Allegri are obsessed with winning, Conte cares very much about details

In an exclusive interview, Juventus former player Lichsteiner talked about Conte and Allegri's similarities and differences in their coaching styles, and shared some little-known past events.

Conte and Allegri have their first showdown in years and today, what do they mean to you?

They are two great masters and winner coaches. They have written the history of football and will continue to bring us surprises and enjoyment in the future.

Of course, I will talk about Conte and Allegri, and I have so many wonderful memories with them. There is only one question I won't answer. What is the problem with

?

"Who do I like more about the two of them?" I have a deep relationship with them, and it is really hard to tell the difference.

Okay, then let's delete this question. Most of your career has been spent with Conte (2011-2014, three Serie A champions) and Allegri (2014-2018, four more). At Juventus, they are planning and you charge on the field. It can be said that this is a fairly successful combination...

What do they have in common?

Obsession with victory. Conte would write this obsession on his face, while Allegri was better at hiding, but they all knew how to win and could always find the key to defeating the enemy. Furthermore, they are all extremely well prepared on a tactical level: they are the ones who really study football.

What are the differences between them?

Conte is more like a "builder", while Allegri is a "manager". But I've heard too many stereotypes about them. Their abilities are far more than that, both of them have many talents.

The first stereotype is: training with Conte is more tiring. is that so?

only said part of it right. We didn't have European games in the first year at Juventus, so the training intensity was simply devastating. But when we were with Allegri, we also practiced very hard.

The second stereotype: Conte is stricter, and Allegri will let the players play freely in the three frontcourt zones.

Conte is very careful about the details. He will tell you clearly what he wants. You must execute it without any room for negotiation. Allegri will give players more freedom on the offensive end. If you have any ideas, you can also communicate with him. When we were with Conte, we were fully prepared for all the possibilities in the game. However, his substitutions in the game are mostly position adjustments, while Allegri can turn the situation around with one substitution, and even change the entire formation. It can be said that Conte's strength lies in the preparation stage of the game, while Allegri's extraordinary lies in his on-site command and reading game. But they are top in all respects.

Who pays more attention to defense?

Both of them value it very much. And it is in a strict and almost paranoid way. They want to give their opponents a tiny chance of scoring, and their teams always give a feeling of indestructibility. The current football trend is changing, and there are more and more goal battles. But as long as they coach, this situation rarely happens, because goals often come from mistakes, and they hate mistakes and try every means to avoid them. If the game requires the team to hold on to the low post for an hour, they will organize without hesitation.

What was the biggest fire Conte had ever fired?

In the third season, we played against Verona away, with the goal of 100 points in the season. Conte promised to give us two days off before the game. Twenty minutes into the game, we led by two goals. But in the second half, we were slackened and were tied by our opponent in the 94th minute. Conte immediately canceled the holiday and ordered us to report to the training base at 8:30 the next morning. When we arrived, he just looked at our faces and said, "Now, you can go and enjoy those two days of vacation." That class will never be forgotten: At Juventus, you must always do your best, without any mistakes.

Where is the biggest fire that Allegri has ever made?

is away against Crotone in April 2018. During the intermission, his roar in the locker room is still fresh in my memory. He was extremely dissatisfied. We finally drew 1-1 in that game, and a week later, we lost to Napoli at home, almost ruining the championship. But after that critical defeat, Allegri's handling was master level. He calmed us down and told us that as long as we played at our own level, the championship would not be able to run away. This is another valuable lesson: let players take responsibility, but not crush them. Of course, if the players themselves are strong enough, it will be easier...

Do you still remember their praise for you?

I don't remember. But for me, they give me the best compliment every week, which is a starting jersey. Who shouted more in the

game?

Because I played on the wing, I was "yelled" by them, but those are useful tactical instructions. Later, when I really couldn't stand it, I would pretend to be unable to hear it. If I run to the other side, they will send a staff member to pass the message, and then I will turn to Chiellini, who can always see through me and say, "You are pretending to be stupid again, right?"

Allegri once excluded you from the Champions League list, but added you in January.

That thing could have been handled better, but over time you will understand that there are too many things to worry about in the coach's mind that anyone can make mistakes. I never had any disrespectful behavior when the club's decision was against me. A person's character can be reflected in adversity.

You have also started coaching. Who is more inspired by your coaching style?

I will learn from all the coaches I have worked with, but in the end I have to mark myself. You should not copy anyone, but you should integrate the knowledge you have accumulated over the years and form your own things.

What do you expect from the match between Milan and Naples?

This is undoubtedly a confrontation at the highest level, and the preparations for both sides will be extremely sufficient. Given that the season is too early, I think it will be an open game and both teams will strive for dominance. Naples and Milan will undoubtedly be strong contenders for the championship until the end of the season. But I think Inter Milan and Juventus are also capable of competing. The final direction will be the same as before, depending on the key details in the game, performance in the European game, and injuries.
