According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Milan is preparing to renew the contract of 40-year-old midfielder Modric.
Modric signed a 1+1 contract in the summer and was originally scheduled to make a decision next year, but in view of his outstanding performance, contract extension negotiations may be brought forward. The Croatian midfielder has conquered everyone, starting all 11 Serie A games this season and showing no sign of the end of his career.
Modric has become a role model for the team. Reports revealed that with his efforts on the field, even Leo was persuaded to run more for the team. Milan staff also expressed their admiration for his extremely humble attitude despite being a Ballon d'Or winner.
Modric is targeting his fifth World Cup, with Croatia needing just one point from their next two games to advance. If Croatia qualify early this week, Modric may rest in his second national team game in order to recuperate for the Milan derby.
Milan's plan is to extend his contract until June 2026. Using the extension option will allow him to stay with the team until June 2027, when he will be 41 years old.
Modric will serve as a mentor for young players Rich and Asari. In addition, Modric also has an ambition to break the record held by Ibrahimovic and become the oldest Serie A player in the history of Milan.
