According to World Sports, Atletico Madrid does not want to loan Lenglet anymore, and requires players to terminate the contract with Barcelona and then reduce their salary to join.

29-year-old Lenglet was loaned to Atletico Madrid by Barcelona this season, making 34 appearances for the team, including 32 starts. With his outstanding performance, Lenglet was also selected for the new French national team. Lenglet hopes to stay at Atletico Madrid, but Atletico Madrid is unwilling to continue loaning him, but instead ask Lenglet to terminate the contract with Barcelona first and then sign Atletico Madrid for free.

At the same time, Barcelona is also willing to terminate the contract with Lenglet to save a salary. The contract between Lenglet and Barcelona expires on June 30, 2027, with an annual salary of up to 16 million euros, including part of the salary that players agreed to postpone during the epidemic. Lenglet needs to speed up the action and reach an agreement with Barcelona on the termination compensation for the remaining two years of contract. Moreover, Atletico Madrid has made it clear that it cannot afford such a high salary, so Lenglet still needs to lower his salary requirements and join Atletico Madrid freely.

Langelle needs to participate in the European League semi-finals with the French national team first. Due to the tight time, his current termination negotiations with Barcelona are not going smoothly. Atletico Madrid is unwilling to pay any fees to Barcelona. If Lenglet cannot negotiate a termination, Atletico Madrid will consider introducing other defenders.

However, World Sports pointed out that no matter what the outcome of the termination negotiations of Lenglet's contract, it will not affect Lenglet's behalf to represent Atletico Madrid in the Club World Cup this summer. In Lenglet's previous loan contract, it was guaranteed that his loan period would not end until Atletico Madrid finished the Club World Cup.
