On Tuesday local time, Italy issued a new sports decree, allowing players to sign contracts up to 8 years. After discussions by the Italian sports department, it decided to amend the Act No. 36 issued on February 28, 2021. The most critical modification is to change the maximum contract allowed by professional players from 5 years to 8 years in Article 26, paragraph 2.

Therefore, professional players in Italian football can now sign an 8-year contract with the club. However, the decree currently has only temporary effect and must be approved by parliament within 60 days and converted into formal legal terms.

In addition, according to UEFA regulations, the maximum period of cost amortization for players is still 5 years, and this new law will not affect this.
